I am a journalist, international media expert and communications consultant with an extensive network of contacts. Committed to helping your organisation and our industry create success stories through empathy, inclusivity and compassionate leadership, my work combines thought leadership, research and an extensive experience and understanding of international media. I have recently founded Headlines Network, which promotes more open conversations around mental health in journalism.

‘Hannah is an absolutely fantastic facilitator and speaker…..I would not hesitate to recommend Hannah for any project around mental health, news safety, or newsroom capacity building.’ Jon Laurence, Executive Producer, AJ+

Author

I am an author of fiction, non-fiction and memoir.

My debut flash fiction collection, ‘The Thin Line Between Everything and Nothing’ has been described as ‘an unbeatable combination of courage and talent’, and contains several award-winning short stories.

‘Mental Health and Wellbeing: a Practical Guide’ was published by Routledge. The first of its kind, I wrote this book for anyone interested in supporting the mental health of the news media and in turn supporting the health of those who bring us the news.

I have also co-authored several ground-breaking and industry defining publications including, ‘No Woman’s Land: On the Frontlines with Female Reporters’, the first book dedicated to the safety of female journalists, and ‘The Emotional Toll on Journalists of Covering the Refugee Crisis’, the first study into moral injury and the media. I am frequently asked to write on issues related to press freedom, journalism safety, resilience and mental health.

My as yet unpublished memoir was shortlisted in the Mslexia writing awards. Other writing has won awards and I have been named in the top 50 British and Irish writers of Flash Fiction.

I am currently working on my first novel, with the working title ‘Moral Injury’.

Speaker

Society of Editors conference 2023

A sought-after speaker and moderator, I have international experience addressing large conferences and seminars as well as convening smaller scale conversations and writing speeches. I am comfortable chairing a range of conversations, my specific expertise is in journalism safety, online harassment, mental health, gender and ethics. I have recently co-hosted an international event focussed on online harm for CBC/Radio-Canada and also facilitate regular cross-industry meetings across a variety of subjects related to journalism safety and mental health. I speak Spanish and French to a decent level.

Hannah Storm has that rarest of all qualities. When she stands to speak, she stands not only as an expert but also — vitally — as a vulnerable, brilliant, brave woman. Hannah speaks a truth — her truth — and invites the audience in to an unforgettable experience, where they are intellectually engaged and challenged, sure, and emotionally connected” – Amy Selwyn, Managing Director, News Xchange

BBC Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet on my writing

‘Powerful writing as strong and inspiring as the writer. Hannah Storm’s short stories about little moments reveal far bigger truths about a wider, often wicked, world.’
